During the first week of March, 8 of Clover’s Mama Afrika’s or their representatives attended my Basics of Baking course in Johannesburg. It was a roaring success and at the end of the week each of the participants went home with a variety of essential baking tools sponsored by Clover as well as recipes and lots of baked goodies to share with their families. During their weeklong training the attendees learnt to make sweet and savoury scones and muffins, cupcakes, banana bread, Madeira cake and sponge cake. As a special treat, I demonstrated a fun variation on cupcakes – my cupcake high heel shoes! They were in awe!
The attendees were: Mamas Felicity from Soweto, Doris from Keiskammahoek, Glenrose from Mdantsane, Mirriam from Mbekweni, and members: Virginie from Ennerdale, Tommy Oliphant, Paulus Johannes and Marlene Malgas from Roodewal in Worcester.
On the last day of the course each of the attendees had the opportunity to showcase their baked goods as well as their newly acquired knowledge of how to set a table for “high tea”. Prof Elain Vlok was very impressed and handed each of the attendees a certificate for successfully completing the course. Fun was had by all. I am already looking forward to doing another course with the Mama’s!
