The latest foodie movie, French Toast, by Hartiwood films, the creators of Liefling and Pretville. French Toast is a romantic drama/comedy starring Lika Berning and Thierry Ballarin. It is one of the first South African movies that was partly shot in Paris, France and partly on a custom built set in Hartbeespoortdam, North West Province. The “set” is currently running as the French Toast Koffie Kafee. The Café has a replica “Lock Bridge” and an “I Love You Wall” which was appropriately opened on Valentine’s Day 2015 by the director of the movie Paul Kruger and lead actress Lika Berning.
Lise le Roux, played by Lika Berning, is a photographer who lives with her father on a wine farm near Stellenbosch. Her mother passed away some time ago, and when Lise stumbles upon her mother’s old diary, revealing a secret her mother kept from her, she decides to embark on a journey to find a lost sibling in Paris, France.
On arrival in Paris Lise meets a French chef, Jean-Pierre Baptiste, played by Thierry Ballarin. Jean-Pierre is looking for a photographer for his new cookbook. Lise agrees to take the photos for his cookbook, if he returns the favour by helping her to track the clues to her lost sibling. It is a win-win for both of them and together they explore Paris to unravel Lise’s family secret.
If you haven’t been to Paris France, then this movie will definitely guide you through some of the most spectacular sceneries seen through Lise’s eyes!
