Customised Culinary Lessons

Would you like to expand your culinary knowledge but don’t know where to start? Why don’t you book a few customised culinary lessons with me? The lessons take place in your own kitchen, so you don’t even need to leave your house! Just let me know when and where! And of course what you would like to learn to cook and bake. The options are endless!

If you’ve researched cooking classes offered by mainstream cooking schools, you will have realised:

  • they have set menu’s, i.e. don’t offer the types of recipes you would like to learn to make and cannot be customised to accommodate your dietary requirements
  • they have specific dates and times (only evening classes) that doesn’t suit you
  • they only offer group classes, so you are forced to make small talk with strangers
  • they have one chef/instructor and many students, so the tutor/student ratio can be as much as 1 to 10, so there is a good chance your questions will remain unanswered and you won’t be able to progress at your pace!
  • they are situated at locations far from where you live and you dread driving to a lesson in peak traffic or at night?

If any (or all!) of the above is currently preventing you from reaching your culinary potential, look no further, I’ve got the solution! When you book lessons with me …

  • the lessons take place in the comfort of your own kitchen. I will bring everything needed for the lessons – from the equipment to the groceries.
  • the lesson content will be customised to the student’s level of skill and experience with cooking and baking.
  • The recipes will also be customised to the student’s food likes/dislikes, dietary requirements, cooking style, etc.
  • to the types of dishes the student would like to learn to cook, i.e. a complete meal (starter, main course and dessert) or to focus on specific recipes, i.e. quick and easy dinners.  Or the focus can be on exploring popular recipes from a variety of different cuisines, food topics or even cooking techniques.    The possibilities are endless!
  • lessons can be booked 7 days of the week, so just let me know when will suit you!
  • the lessons are one-on-one, so the student will get my undivided attention. You are more than welcome to ask a friend, family member, partner, etc. to join you.
  • I have 20 years experience as a culinary instructor, and I have a wealth of knowledge to share with you. Book a few lessons with me and before you know it, you will be cooking up a storm!

My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate or advanced “chefs” – no experience required.   Whether you book lessons for yourself, your life partner, your child or for your domestic worker, house keeper, nanny or kitchen staff I guarantee it will be life-changing!   I am passionate about sharing my culinary knowledge with fellow foodies and chef wannabe’s.  My customised culinary sessions are ideal for mom’s, dad’s, teenagers, school leavers, young professionals, newly weds, au pairs, etc. Also for nanny’s, domestic workers, butlers and kitchen staff (of schools or Guest Houses)! I believe that on-site one-on-one training is the best option for your employees. Preparing meals for a family, clients, etc. is a big responsibility!

I am based in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg. I provide mobile culinary services to most of Gauteng.

My lessons are customised to the student’s requirements, i.e. the lesson content is adapted to the level and pace determined by the student.  The content of the lessons are customised as follows:

Please note:   if the student is a domestic worker, kitchen staff, houseman, etc. the lesson content will be customised to the food likes and dislikes of the family he/she works for. As well as to the dietary requirements of the family he/she works for.

I recommend that all students, regardless of their level of skill with cooking or baking, complete at least four lessons so that we can cover a variety of recipes during the lessons.  Please note:   if the student is a domestic worker, houseman, etc. the first lesson will be theory. I believe that it is important for a student to master the basic skills outlined in the course manual before he/she can be taught to cook and/or bake.   The first lesson will be therefore be theory, followed by at 3 or more cooking lessons. I recommend that the lessons take place at least once a week, i.e. every Tuesday or more regularly if possible, so that we don’t lose momentum with the learning. The duration of each lesson is 4 hours.  The lesson times for different types of students are as follows:

  • for domestic workers, housekeepers, housemen, au pairs, etc. who work for an employer from e.g. 08:00 to 17:00, the lessons start at 11:00 and finish at 15:00 to give him/her a chance to clean the kitchen, etc. before and after the lessons
  • for students or people working full day during the week, lessons can take place on Sundays between 14:00 and 18:00.
  • for school-going children, lessons can take place on week day afternoons between 14:00 and 18:00 or on Sunday afternoons between 14:00 and 18:00.

My customised culinary lessons includes:

  • preparing a variety of recipes customised to the student’s level of skill, food likes and dislikes, dietary requirements and wish list of recipes he/she would like to learn.
  • learning to make recipes from scratch or to “cheat” with ready-made ingredients – the possibilities are endless!
  • a set of comprehensive, easy-to-follow recipes, filed in individual PVC file pockets in an arch lever file.
  • a comprehensive 90 page manual that covers topics such as Kitchen Hygiene, Food Safety, Kitchen Safety, Food Storing, etc. It also includes chapters on Meat, Poultry, Fish, Eggs and much more! The manual can be used as a reference guide in the kitchen by the student and/or the family he/she works for.
  • an assessment of your kitchen equipment. I will make recommendations on which kitchen equipment needs to be bought if necessary.  It is also an option that I buy the equipment on your behalf. I charge a small fee to do this. Please do not feel you need to buy any equipment for the lessons.  I am happy to bring the equipment needed for the lessons so that you can see what it looks like.

My customised culinary lessons excludes:

  • ingredients required for the lesson. Once we have agreed on the recipes for a lesson, we will send you a grocery list with the ingredients we will require for the lesson so that you can buy it.  It is also an option that we buy the groceries on your behalf. We charge a small fee to do this.
  • travel cost to your house (R8.00 per km). This is payable upfront with the lesson cost. To work out the distance between your house and mine, click here.

I look forward to helping you to expand your culinary knowledge!
