Beef is a rich source of protein and is indispensable in a balanced diet as it serves as the building material for the body’s muscles, connective tissue, bones, brain, blood, skin, hair and nails. Beef contains the nine essential amino acids and is an excellent source of minerals, especially iron, Zinc, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper, Magnesium and Manganese.

Since Karan Beef’s humble beginning in 1974, the company has grown from managing less than 100 head of cattle, to being the largest fully-integrated Class A Beef producer in the Southern Hemisphere. They have their own Feedlot, Feedmill, Abattoir, Meat processing plant and Distribution centre.
Karan Beef’s 2300 hectare Feedlot situated outside Heidelberg in Gauteng. It currently houses up to 140 000 head of cattle and also accommodates one of the largest and one of the most modern Feedmills of its kind in the world.
In order to guarantee their customers the best quality beef, Karan Beef ensures that all stages of production are strictly controlled. To achieve this they have elected to implement food safety, quality and environmental management systems that comply with International standards. Karan Beef starts off with the purchase of the healthiest animals from specially selected breeders. The weaners are chosen from breeds known to produce tender beef and are transported in trucks that are custom built to minimise stress and avoid injuries. From the minute they arrive at our feedlot, it is up to us to ensure that the animals are treated like VIP’s. Special recipes of natural grain products and lots of TLC is on the menu. The animals are monitored daily to ensure their comfort and health. Each animal is logged onto our state of the art IT system to ensure traceability from arrival to final product.
Karan Beef’s Abattoir in Balfour (Mpumalanga) was the first in South Africa to be HACCP certified. Karan Beef is also ISO 22000 certified, and Halaal approved, has export status (ZA-71) and utilizes independent inspection and grading from IMQAS (International Meat Quality Assurance Service). Emphasis is on hygiene and quality throughout every process, resulting in the quality and tenderness for which Karan Beef is renowned.
