Following a low carb high fat (LCHF) lifestyle, or “Banting” is very popular these days. In a nutshell, “Banting”, named after the late William Banting, also known as the father of the low carb diet, was the first person to popularise a weight loss diet based on lowering the consumption of refined carbohydrates. More than 150 years later, Banting is revolutionizing the way people think about and choose the food they eat today.
To “bant” or not to “bant” is a choice I believe each individual should make for him- or herself, but I do recommend that you try it out for yourself, before you condemn it. I did, and I was quite surprised by how easy it was to walk in the shoes of low-carbers. It entailed that I had to cook low-carb high fat meals for my family for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so it did not take me long to work through all the recipes in the Real Meal Revolution recipe book (see my post Review: Real Meal Revolution). I therefor had no choice but to convert a few classic recipes using the rules of the low carb high fat lifestyle. I am happy to report that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be and that I had a lot of fun adding fat to all my meals instead of leaving it out. My kids struggled a bit in the beginning when there was no bread to be found in the house, but they converted quite easily. The best of all is that I lost 5 kg’s in the process!
Be sure to try my Cauliflower Cakes, Baked Cauliflower Mash, Cauliflower Fried Rice and Cauliflower-base pizza. Please use your own discretion if a recipe contains ingredients that are on the orange or red lists.
