Home-made Glazed Doughnuts

Who does not love doughnuts? These days it is popular to have a stack of douhgnuts instead of a birthday cake. Better yet, a doughnut wall to celebrate a birthday, wedding, etc.! Making doughnuts at home can easily be done with a few inexpensive ingredients. Once you’ve made these doughnuts, I guarantee your family will be requesting them on a regular basis. See the video I loaded on my Facebook page on how to glaze the doughnuts. In the video I use the dipping method. The glaze can also be drizzled over the doughnuts. Sprinkle with your favourite sprinkles or leave plain.

Prepare the dough for the doughnuts as per the Ring Doughnuts recipe.

The ingredients required to make the dough.
Combine the larger quantity of cake flour, salt, sugar and yeast in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a “K” attachment.
Add the butter, eggs, vanilla and milk.
Switch the mixer on and mix to combine the ingredients.
Add the rest of the flour and mix until the dough comes together in a ball in the bottom of the bowl.
Form the dough into a neat ball andd return it to the bowl.
Cover the bowl with a lid or cling wrap and set it aside to rise for 30 minutes.
The dough will have doubled in size.
Transfer the dough to a non-stick sheet en roll it to a thickness of 15 mm.
Dip a doughnut cutter in flour and cut out shapes.
Remove the excess dough and reroll it for more doughnuts.
Cover the dough shapes with a clean kitchen cloth and set it aside to rise for 30 minutes.
Transfer freshly fried doughnuts to a cooling to cool before glazing.
Place a non-stick baking sheet or baking paper under the cooling rack before glazing the doughnuts.
For chocolate glaze, just add sifted cocoa powder to the glaze and mix well. Ganache works well too!
Transfer the doughnuts to a serving platter or to a box for gifting!
Fry the doughnut holes in the same manner.
Remove them from the oil with a serrated spoon and transfer it to a plate lined with a double layer of kitchen paper.
Comibne about 50 ml sugar and 2.5 ml ground cinnamon in a plate and mix well.
Roll the doughnut holes in the sugar while still hot. These did not even make it to a serving platter!

I used a 5 cm cutter to cut out mini circular shapes to make vetkoek.
Mini vetkoek filled with Curry Mince.
