Bulletproof® Coffee (also known as Fat Black) is a brand founded by Californian businessman Dave Asprey. He claims drinking Bulletproof coffee will help melt away fat, boost your energy and improve your focus. The brew do of course need to be made with high quality ingredients such as Dave’s own brand of Bulletproof Upgraded coffee beans, (it is free of harmful mycotoxins), grass-fed, unsalted butter and MCT oil, it It is therefore understandable that many high performers – from athletes to business executives – have adopted drinking this potent energy-boosting brew as part of their morning ritual. It’s particularly popular among individuals following a Banting or Paleo lifestyle.
The practice of putting butter in coffee or tea isn’t a completely foreign concept though. In Tibet, you may be offered a cup of Tibetan tea in the morning, where the ingredients are butter, tea, and salt or black pepper. You might find it in Singapore, too, where coffee beans are stir-fried with butter in a wok before being strained through a filter into your cup. These morning drinks are said to provide sustained energy all day long.
Among Bulletproof coffee’s listed benefits are:
- it triggers and promotes healthy, sustainable weight loss by way of ketosis, a metabolic state triggered by a lack of carbs that kicks fat-burning into overdrive
- it leads to lower levels of inflammation in your gut
- it boosts cognitive function and brain performance by feeding your brain with ketones; and
- it boosts your energy levels
To make a cup of Bulletproof brew:
- Brew 1 cup of coffee using filtered water and freshly ground coffee beans.
- Add in 5 ml MCT oil to the hot coffee
- Add 15 ml grass-fed, unsalted butter or ghee
- Mix it all in a blender for 20 to 30 seconds until frothy and serve
Bulletproof Coffee fans claim that it’s satisfying, kills hunger, eliminates jitters often caused by high caffeine intake, and keeps drinkers humming all day. After all the attention it got in the media, I of course had to try it, but I think I will rather get my daily quota of “bulletproof” by humming David Guetta’s Titanium!
