We are once again on the threshold of the “silly season”. As the days get longer and our energy levels rise it’s time to dust off that New Year’s resolutions list (if you can find it!) and make another attempt at it before the year runs out. One of mine was to start a herb garden. I don’t have green fingers, but with my new Stack-A-Pots planting system which I discovered at the Good Food & Wine Show, I will have my own mini herb garden soon! Get yours online or at Aardklop (Potch) this week.
This month’s recipes are inspired by the Oktoberfest which is currently in full swing in Germany and all over the world. If you want to join in the celebrations, head to Montecasino’s Bierfest (11 to 14 October 2012).

October recipes
This month’s recipes, in a new printer-friendly format, have a Bavarian theme to tie in with the OktoberFest celebrations. They are: German Pot Roast, Farmer-style Potatoes, Dumplings, Soft Pretzels and Fresh Sauerkraut. And for dessert Shortbread Cake Pops made with Silikomart’s Easypops and a Cheat’s Apple Strudel. In the latter ready-made phyllo dough is used instead of the traditional Strudel Dough, which is quite tricky to make! The recipe and photo is by Carolie de Koster. Read more …
