During the month of June it is the Dad’s turn to have a special day during which family members have the opportunity to spoil them rotten. Happy Father’s Day to all fathers! With the public holiday on Monday 17 June (due to Youth Day falling on a Sunday this year), why don’t you go on a spoiling-spree and continue spoiling Dads throughout Monday! If you are not sure where to go or what to do, visit family-oriented websites such as Jozikids and Childmag for their events.
Seeing that Dad’s work long hours to put “bread” on the table, I thought it fitting to include at least one bread recipe in this month’s selection of recipes. It only has five ingredients and is super easy to make. I have also included a few recipes from Carolié de Koster’s popular Art Of Cooking recipe book with Dad’s palate in mind. If the Dad in your family is a “meat-and-potatoes” kinda guy, he is sure to love recipes such as Rare Roast Lamb With Green Vinaigrette, Barbecued Lamb, Make-ahead Fillet With Creamy Mushroom Sauce, Moussaka, Baked Potato With Cheese, Avo & Bacon and Saddle-back Potatoes. I have not included any salads or vegetable side dishes this time!
With the winter school holiday’s around the corner, I have scheduled two Cupcake Couture classes for Mom’s and daughters. While spending quality time together, each mother and daughter team will design and decorate two pairs of high heel edible shoes. It will take place on Friday 5 July and Saturday 13 July. Space is limited, so please book asap to avoid disappointment. To make a booking, click here. The Cupcake Couture class can be booked as a private event and can be done on-site, i.e. at your office for an event such as Secretary’s Day 2013 (Wednesday 4 September). Read more further down.
If you would like to book an “Ek het dit self gemaak/I made it myself!” cooking party for your child’s next birthday, I recommend you secure the date with me as soon as possible. Especially if you want it to take place on a Saturday. Read more further down.
If you are looking for a fun-filled foodie outing for the whole family, be sure to visit the first ever Dutch Winter Faire in Parktown on Saturday 6 July. The more than 25 stalls selling Dutch and homemade wares such as books, classics and collectables, candles, knit wear, Dutch spices and sweets, flowers, etc. There will also be a hall dedicated to childrens entertainment including pottery painiting, cupcake decorating, sand art, sjoelen, grabbelton a Fancy Dress competition and much more! The Hermes range of products has always been my first choice for party snacks for birthday parties – whether the party is for my own kids or for the kids that attend my cooking parties. It is mainly because Hermes uses top quality ingredients in their cones, sweets and snacks and of course also due to the variety of products they have! Hermes recently introduced me to something that is in my opinion a must in every household – cone servers! It is a mini tray of sorts that is used to serve cones in – whether the cones are filled with cupcake batter or ice-cream! Cooking Up A Storm is a stockist of cone servers from 1 June 2013. I specialize in customised culinary lessons – whether for yourself or your domestic worker, housekeeper or nanny. This is what one of my clients had to say after I trained her domestic worker: “Jeanri is extremely professional, comes fully prepared for every lesson and puts every effort into making sure that your domestic worker learns to cook. She even spent time with mine, teaching her maths so that she could halve recipes, double up on portions etc. Jeanri goes shopping on your behalf and makes sure that you have everything you need for a lesson, even down to the equipment needed in the kitchen so that there is no delay in lesson time. Everything she taught Fredah to cook has been delicious and we have used her recipes over and over. My domestic worker has gained a lot of confidence in the kitchen. Jeanri ensures that your domestic is able to write up a shopping list, keep to excellent hygiene standards in the kitchen, cook, bake, and tidy up properly afterwards. Definitely money well spent, I can only highly recommend her.” Kelly, Parkview. Read more further down.

I chose this month’s recipes with palates of Dad’s in mind. If the Dad in your family is a “meat-and-potatoes” kinda guy, he is sure to love these recipes. Seeing that Dad’s work long hours to put “bread” on the table, I thought it fitting to include at least one bread recipe.

New: Cupcake Couture Holiday Class
The latest craze on the cupcake scene is Cupcake Stiletto’s or High Heel Cupcakes. During the June/July school holiday’s, I will be doing a Cupcake Couture class for Mom’s & daughters (8 years and older). Please fill out the booking form to make a booking. Space is limited, so book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! The Cupcake Couture Class can also be booked by private groups, e.g. book club, kitchen tea, girls get-together, etc.

Culinary Parties For Kids
When booking a culinary party for your child, you have the option to choose the language in which the party will be conducted, i.e. ”Ek het dit self gemaak!” or ”I made it myself!“. The parties can take place on-site, i.e. at your house or venue (like a club house or lapa) or at one of my venues. Seeing that most birthday parties usually take place on or close to the actual birth date, please book in advance if you want to secure a specific date.

The first Dutch Winter Faire will be launched in Johannesburg in July 2013. The Faire promises to be an opportunity for South Africans of Dutch origin to enjoy cuisine and experiences from their heritage, while simultaneously introducing other South Africans to the “gezelleigheid” and to share in the delights of the Dutch. The Faire will be repeated annually on the 1st Saturday in July.

Hermes Cones & Snack Manufacturers
I love the quality and the variety of the Hermes range of cones, sweets and snacks. Below are some of the Hermes products I use in my classes and parties on a regular basis:
- Flatbottom Party Cones – great for making Cupcake cones *
- Captain Freeze Party Cones – great for filling with sherbet and turning …
