Gingerbread House Workshops 2018

What better way to kick off the Festive Season than with assembling and decorating your own Gingerbread House?   It is a great culinary activity for kids and adults alike!   We will provide everything you will need to assemble and decorate your very own Gingerbread House: pre-baked house panels, a cake board, royal icing, variety of candy, step-by-step instructions, etc.

If you prefer to assemble and decorate your Gingerbread House in the comfort of your own home or while on holiday, we also have Do-It-Yourself Gingerbread House Kits in a variety of sizes. They are great to give as a gift or for a fun culinary activity for the holidays.  In our kit you’ll find everything you need to assemble and decorate a gingerbread house – from pre-baked gingerbread house panels, to royal icing, a variety of quality candy, easy-to-follow instructions, etc.   Each kit is packed in a sturdy box and wrapped in gift wrap with a gift tag – i.e. ready to either be placed under the Christmas Tree or to pack on holiday!

My team and I will keep kids entertained with an Emoji-themed culinary activity where they will be able to express themselves by way of decorating a variety of cookies and cupcakes in the Emoji theme with buttercream icing, royal icing, sweets, etc.

You are welcome to drop your kid(s) off and go. I am a mom of two primary school kids, so I know that moms sometimes need some me-time! You are also welcome to hang around. I provide tea, coffee, refreshments, etc. for parents on my patio – free of charge. Remember to bring a book or magazine!

The dictionary describes an emoji as “a small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc. in electronic communication.” Can you image a world without emoji’s?

The Emoji Movie is a 3D computer-animated science-fiction comedy based on the emoji symbols. Hidden inside a smartphone, the bustling city of Textopolis is where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user. Each emoji has only one facial expression, except for Gene, who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 and a notorious code breaker called Jailbreak. During their travels through the other apps, the three emojis discover a great danger that could threaten their phone’s very existence.

Culinary Lessons & Events

Cooking Up A Storm specializes in customised culinary events and lessons.  We offer hands-on culinary sessions for corporate or social groups for team building, year-end functions, special occasions, etc.  One of our most popular services is our on-site culinary lessons for individuals, e.g. domestic workers or yourself – in your own kitchen!

Hands-on Culinary Sessions

Taking part in a culinary activity, i.e. sharing tasks to prepare a meal and sitting down to enjoy the fruit of your labour afterwards, is an effective and memorable way to build and strengthen relationships with friends, colleagues or clients in a fun, informal environment. When booking a Cooking Up A Storm culinary session, the event can take place at Cooking Up A Storm Culinary Experiences in Robindale, Randburg or at a venue of your choice, e.g. a restaurant, club house, private house, etc.  Choose from our library of cuisines and themes and make your event a memorable experience!

On-site Culinary Lessons

The content of my culinary lessons lessons is customised to the students level of skill as well as your family’s lifestyle, i.e. low GI & low fat, low carb and high fat, etc.  In a nutshell, I will teach yourself or your domestic worker to cook food that you like to eat, whether it is traditional “boerekos”, modern variations of it or the cuisines of other countries, e.g. French, Italian, Mexican, Moroccan, Spanish – to name a few.  Regardless of your current level of skill or the size of your kitchen, learning to cook will change your life. Once you know the basics, you will be able to make just about anything. The possibilities are endless!  Please make contact for more information.  Also see the Testimonials page for more info.

My culinary parties for kids are extremely popular.  Read more about it here.

Many of my clients are based in Johannesburg or Pretoria, but I have ventured as far as Sasolburg, Hartebeespoortdam and Warmbaths to do culinary events.  Just let me know where and I will be there!

Please make contact for more information.

For The Boys

After the success of my Cupcake Couture class for Moms and daughters, I thought it only fair to do one for Moms and sons as well.  It will take place on Saturday 5 October 2013 from 14:00 to 16:30.  The theme will be aeronautics, so you and your son(s) will have the opportunity to spend quality time together while “building” a vintage airplane, a spaceship and a fighter jet with the help of butter icing, biscuits and sweets.  Space is limited, so please book asap to avoid disappointment.  To make a booking, click here.

If you would like to do something similar with your daughter, I also have a Cupcake Couture Class that involves turning a pair of cupcakes into edible couture with the help of butter icing, biscuits and a variety of edible decorating items such as sprinkles, sweets, etc.

Both of these classes can be booked as a “Ek het dit self gemaak/I made it myself!” cooking party for your child’s next birthday.  Please note though that children younger than 8 will need to be assisted by an adult.   Please contact me for more details.
